Portsmouth CEO charged with tax evasion
LONDON (AP) Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie has been charged with tax evasion.
The City of London Police claims that Storrie arranged for Senegal midfielder Amdy Faye's signing-on fee to be paid via an agent to avoid paying tax.
The Revenue and Customs Prosecutions Office said that Storrie "cheated the public revenue ... with intent to defraud" between July 2003 and August 2005.
The fee paid to agent Willie McKay is believed to have been 250,000 pounds ($412,900).
Faye joined Portsmouth from Auxerre in 2003 and moved to Newcastle in 2005.
Storrie will appear in court on Nov. 16.
