Blackburn Rovers v Portsmouth
Time Commentary
95' MATCH REACTION
Jason Roberts sparked a great comeback from Blackburn, as the striker grabbed himself a couple of goals in a brilliant second half display. Portsmouth were bright, but the exit of Aruna Dindane early in the second half affected Portsmouth's forward play. On-loan midfielder Jamie O'Hara was unable to control the game like he did in the first half and as lady luck would have it everything David Dunn touched seemed to reach a Blackburn player. Ryan Nelsen headed home Blackburn's second goal and his second Rovers career goal before Roberts sealed the win with a late third. This was a very good second half performance from Blackburn and a deserved victory for the home team.
93' FULL TIME
Andre Marriner blows the whistle and Blackburn Rovers have beaten Portsmouth 3-1.
91' PORTSMOUTH CORNER
O'Hara with the corner, but it comes to nothing as the referee spots some pushing and blows for a foul.
88' HOME DOMINANCE
A great performance today for Blackburn. They have now won their last four home games. The fans are cheering every pass, poor old Paul Hart. It all looked so good at half time.
86' BLACKBURN 3-1 PORTSMOUTH
Benni McCarthy delivers a fantastic cross to which Jason Roberts applies a fantastic finish to put Blackburn 3-1 up.
83' DUNN FREE-KICK
Ryan Nelsen once again gets on the end of a David Dunn cross. They are enjoying quite a partnership this afternoon.
80' MCCARTHY CHANCE
Benni McCarthy shoots inside the box and only a deflection prevents him from scoring. Blackburn win a corner but McCarthy knows he should have scored.
79' SILLY TACKLE
Ben Haim with a silly challenge on Jason Roberts. He allows Blackburn to wind down the clock.
77' KANU ON!
Nwankwo Kanu has replaced Mokoena for Portsmouth. The last stages of the game now are sure to be interesting with the big forward on the field.
76' DEFLECTED SHOT
Jamie O'Hara hits a shot from outside of the area, it takes a wicked deflection and Robinson makes a very good save.
74' PORTSMOUTH CHANCE
Good pressure from Pompey with tricky play from Piquionne. Portsmouth get a corner but nothing comes from it.
72' BLACKBURN 2-1 PORTSMOUTH
Ryan Nelsen puts Blackburn ahead with a header from David Dunn's corner. That was a fantastic headed goal from the Rovers defender. What a turnaround!
67' POMPEY BREAK
Portsmouth are playing well now and Tommy Smith creates space on the right hand side. He tries to put a cross in, but it's blocked and Pompey get a corner.
63' YELLOW CARD FOR BROWN
Chris Samba is fouled by Michael Brown as he expertly brought the ball out of the Rovers defence.
61' CHIMBONDA LIVELY
Pascal Chimbonda is having a great second half. Moments ago he was flying down the wing winning his team a free-kick. He then went and wasted a throw. You can't have it all.
57' ROBERTS CHANCE
Good play from Benni McCarthy as he plays the ball in to Jason Roberts who turns and shoots just wide. Exciting stuff from Rovers.
53' BLACKBURN 1-1 PORTSMOUTH
Jason Roberts equalises for Blackburn as Roberts latches onto David Dunn's corner and taps the ball in to the back of the net.
49' DINDANE SUBBED
Aruna Dindane has been taken off by Paul Hart, the Ivory Coast striker has gone off injured. He is replaced by Tommy Smith, but that is a big blow for Pompey.
47' CHIMBONDA WINS CORNER
Good work from Chimbonda on the left and he wins Rovers a corner. Blackburn have started positively in the second half.
46' SECOND HALF
The second half starts and Rovers have made two changes bringing Benni McCarthy and Jason Roberts on for Diouf and Pedersen. Is this the reaction Rovers are after?
45' HALF TIME
The ref blows the whistle and it's half time. Portsmouth lead 1-0 at half time at Ewood Park. Blackburn have found it hard going with David Dunn having a quiet game by his standards, while Pascal Chimbonda was lucky not to get sent off after raising an arm to Jamie O'Hara. Rovers need a reaction in the second half.
44' PENALTY SHOUT
Pedersen whips in a free-kick and it's Mokoena who once again grapples with a Rovers player, this time Emerton. It was a big shout from the Blackburn player, but it was waved away by Andrew Marriner.
40' RYAN NELSEN BOOKED
Ryan Nelsen is booked for a challenge on Dindane and now Chimbonda, Givet and Nelsen are all on yellows. Oh dear!
36' CHIMBONDA AND O'HARA
Pascal Chimbonda is a lucky man after raising his arms in reaction to a challenge from O'Hara. Both were booked and for Chimbonda it could have been more.
34' DUNN THREAT NULLIFIED
David Dunn is finding it tough out there. Portsmouth and Mokoena in particular is marshalling him exceptionally well.
30' SAMBA SPARK
Chris Samba is the catalyst for Rovers at the moment. The big defender held play up well and won his side a corner.Pompey cleared the corner once again, but Blackburn are starting to apply more pressure as they attempt to get back level in this game.
28' WHAT A WASTE!
David Dunn mis-hits his corner and it flies out of play. David James is having a lazy afternoon in the Portsmouth goal.
26' FREE-KICK FOR ROVERS
Paul Robinson hoofs a free-kick high into the area but Ben Haim clears the ball with ease. Rovers are trying to find an opening but it's not happening.
23' NO SERVICE FOR DI SANTO
The young striker isn't having much luck up front. There has been little or no service to him.
19' MISSING VINCE GRELLA?
Poor defending has put Rovers behind- it looks like they are missing the cover of the influential Aussie Vince Grella.
17' GOAALLLLL ROVERS 0-1 PORTSMOUTH
Jamie O'Hara strikes a low shot from 30 yards out. He had time and hit his shot past a helpless Paul Robinson. Poor defending from Rovers
12' OPEN GAME
Both teams are being allowed space and time on the ball, but we still have no goals.
10' BOATENG BITING IN
Kevin Prince Boateng lucky to escape without a yellow card after a challenge on Chris Samba. Robinson with the freekick for Blackburn
8' CORNER TO ROVERS
Wasted corner by Rovers- Pedersen hits it stright into David James' grasp.
6' MOKOENA AND DUNN DUEL
Things are looking interesting between the two midfielders- Mokoena just takes down Dunn for a Rovers freekick.
0' POST MATCH REPORT
0' EVEN STEVENS
Portsmouth are getting more into this- Younis Kboul has just had a freekick but it went well wide.
0' HITS POST
El Hadji Diouf gets the ball in the area and strikes the post- only to be pulled up for offside- bright start from Blackburn.
0' KICK OFF
Andre Marriner blows the whistle and we are underway at Ewood Park with Rovers kicking towards the Darwen End.
0' REFEREE WATCH
Today's referee is Andre Marriner, who has sent off four players in his last three Premier League games – most notably Nemanja Vidic and Javier Mascherano in Liverpool's win over United. The assistant referees are Patrick Keane & Andy Halliday and today's fourth official is Mike Jones.
0' PORTSMOUTH VIEW
Portsmouth have been on fire in front of goal scoring eight goals in the last two outings. Paul Hart has kept with the in-form Anura Dindane and Frederic Piquonne up front while Jamie O'Hara continues in midfield after a fantastic start to his Pompey career since his arrival from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer. Despite what you hear in the press, Portsmouth's performances haven't been all that bad this season and Paul Hart has done well to get his to ignore the off-field circus goings on at Fratton Park. After being written off as relegation certainties in the opening months of the season, two decent results on the bounce have given Hart's side hope that they can avoid the drop.
0' HOME TEAM VIEW
Rovers will be out to avenge last week's defeat away to Manchester United. They welcome back Morten Gamst Pedersen who comes in for Keith Andrews. Rovers have been leaking goals of late and Christopher Samba and Ryan Nelsen will have their work cut out keeping the free-scoring Aruna Dindane quiet this afternoon. Blackburn's home form has been good this season and could be what helps them to see off an in-form Pompey side today.
0' PREVIEW
A relegation battle will commence! Blackburn Rovers and Portsmouth will be keen to move out of the relegation zone ASAP. Sam Allardyce only this morning has spoken about the difficulties of getting out of the dreaded ‘R' word. A win for Pompey at Ewood Park would see them leapfrog Blackburn and fellow strugglers Hull City. For Pompey, things may be looking up - Paul Hart's team saw off Wigan 4-0 last week with Aruna Dindane grabbing a hat-trick. Subsequently, Big Sam has spoken about his admiration for the Ivory Coast forward - likewise Pompey midfielder Aaron Mokoena has spoken of his desire to see Benni McCarthy in a Portsmouth shirt. Transfer talk can wait until January, by then one or both of these clubs may be out of the ‘R' zone or in serious trouble. A repeat of the 2-0 win for Rovers in this fixture last season will be just the tonic for Allardyce, but I'm sure Paul Hart will have other ideas…
